September Update for Dirtside
over 3 years ago – Thu, Sep 17, 2020 at 10:51:38 PM

This book and the product is getting better every time I iterate it. There comes a time when you just have to pull the trigger and say, it will be as good as it will be. I just changed dropping from orbit this morning slightly. There are thousands of minor little tweaks that keep making it better.

I want you all to know that I am on this every day. You are keeping the right amount of pressure on to remind me that I have to get it done but I don't have to rush it.

The book is done. (ish) I've got a little room left and I'd like to see what you all want or have to offer. Somebody said a page or two of player tips might be nice. Do you want to see more fiction? Expanded FAQ? Untested treasures or abilities? Should I post a poll?

The next step is to get the sample character cards done. The minis are sculpted but we haven't started the molding. There is a lot to do and we are doing it.

Please comment below with what you'd like to see done with the last page or two to fill.

I remain grateful for your support and determined to make this thing awesome.

August is here. But my game is not.

Hey Everybody,

This is my least favorite kind of update because I'm just saying that I'm not coming through yet.

I know it is hard to hear that I've not gotten it done yet but there was a lot of stuff that needed to get sorted out. Having the rulebook help from you all has been great but it also meant I had to go back through and fix a lot of stuff.

Things are moving. I haven't forgotten you or stopped working. I will keep you posted even if it is a pretty weak update like this one.

The Dirtside Rulebook Needs Eyes on it.
almost 4 years ago – Tue, Jul 07, 2020 at 02:06:11 AM

It has been hard getting the book together. The closer I get, the more I'm afraid that it isn't going to be good enough. Those of you who have been helping test on Thursday nights have been great and I feel like it is working great but it is hard to let it go. I know there are still minor inconsistencies.

I'm going to have to release it to the wild. Okay not the real wild but actually just you guys. I really need your input about what, if anything isn't working about the game.

It hasn't had the final pass by Dan yet so don't worry about margins being out of line or wrong fontage. That stuff is all my fault. I'm trying to get the info onto the page so he can pretty it up later.

This pass is about the following question:

"Does this make sense?"

Please look at these rules and let me know where it is still confusing.

I've got the latest version of the Dirtside rulebook up here:

siadek.com/DirtsideJuly.pdf

I would greatly appreciate feedback on it in the following format:

Emailed document to me ([email protected])

With the following information.

Page Number (the number from the bottom of the page not the page number in the pdf which counts the cover as "1") and title of section, column and/or paragraph. Then the corrected text as you think it should be. Finally, you can clarify or pose a question.

Example.

Page 6 Column 2 Select Characters section. The last "Note" should read,

Note: Each player should look up their character's special ability equipment and species ability."

And is better than the original plus here.

As always, if you have any questions, please communicate with me directly. I am doing the best I can and I appreciate the support you all have shown me.

May Update
almost 4 years ago – Thu, May 21, 2020 at 12:28:40 AM

Yes, the whole lockdown thing has thrown a monkey wrench into the works but the biggest reason for delays is that I want to get it right. I am working away at the game and it is just getting better and better. It is frustrating to me that part of the process is getting the book laid out and looked and iterating but that has led to tremendous improvement.  At some point, there are diminishing returns so I'll have to just publish but right now, I'm very happy with the progress we are making and it is nearing the end of the journey.

If anybody wants to join on Thursday nights at 7pm Pacific Time for the tabletop simulator playtests. We are in the room:

Battlestations

I will continue to keep you posted.  Thank you for your support and feedback and patience.

The rulebook is laid out!
about 4 years ago – Wed, Apr 15, 2020 at 08:17:57 PM

We've finished the first whack at laying out the rulebook so there are some things that will be shifting but basically, what we have here is a finished game that isn't quite finished. I'm not going to screw around with balancing it more (although I just did a Thursday night Tabletop Simulator playtest that caused me to change some stuff).

This thing looks great. It was just my words but somehow, when Dan puts in James' art and lays it out all pretty I can unabashedly proclaim my love for this book. I'm going to send it out to a select few viewers first for content before I open it up to everybody to find the typos.

Thank you for your patience.  This game will be worth it!

If you are interested in playtesting, we are meeting on Tabletop Simulator on Thursday nights at 7 pm pacific time in the server "GorillaGames" with the password "Battlestations"
